bodgeitjo:
hi guys and girls, just wondering what i would need to change / add to change from lt77 to r380. i have heard that the 300 tdi is a stronger box is this true?. thanx in advance.             jo

Range Rover Blues:
IIRC it was designed to handle more torque, so I guess it is stronger but more than that it's a much nicer box even when worn out.  IIRC it still has recognised weak spots though but if I could get one I'd fit it.

Benjamin:
As far as i know the lt uses cable speedo and the 380 is electronic. Other than that i think its a straght swap.

andyb:
Yes pretty much straight swap. Make sure it is a Discovery gearbox and even the bell housing bolt pattern is the same....

...however, you will need to change over the speedo sender, R380 one is electronic as already noted. When you look at both LT77 and R380 side by side you will see that they both have all the mounting bolt holes so you can fit the LT77 mounting to the R380 and reuse your original gearbox cross member.

I've swapped LT77 into a Disco behind a 300Tdi and put an R380 behind a 200Tdi also in a Discovery. PM me if you want any help etc :)

wizard:
You will also need to change the hand brake cable if using the drum on the R380 box as they have different fittings to the LT77.

wizard
