steering ouch?

got fast vibration through front end which increases with speed up to about 40 then eases off a bit. checked wheels for bearing wear but no movement on them. it's got a new steering damper on which made things better for a few weeks but now different bit broken?
also got loud clunking on back diff end of drive shaft... worn linkage methinks.....it has larger range of movement than seems right when wheels are rotated while it's jacked up.... is it a big costly job to fix?

have to confess to being a bit pi**ed off with it now!

First have you checked the front end has the viscous unit seized up again ? Jack it up and see if you can turn a front wheel at all ?

Has a propshaft joint fallen apart like the front one did ? Have a look underneath at the front of the diff when you turn the road wheel round is the propshaft turning in symmetry or is it way out and rattling about.

Lastly has the back diff given up the ghost, lots of clonky noises ?

Didi, I'm sure your dad knows more about these things than me  :D but the vibration sounds like tyres to me. had a similar thing on the wifes paj. try swapping the front and rear wheels, (left to right to if you see what i mean  ) as for the diff/drive shaft's, are they greased up ?  Did mine before offroading last weekend and couldnt believe how much grease went in  :shocked:Grease gun money well spent methink's  :D Worth a try and cheaper than a diff  [-o<

Range Rover Blues:
There is an awful lot of backlash in a worn front axle DIDI, there are far more splined joints than at the back end.

As for the vibration, is it coming up through the steering wheel at all (steering shimey) or is it more through the floor?

didirangerover:
there's a lot of play in the prop UJ at the rear end just in front of the rear diff so that's first job and see if it cures it. it's due to go onto the big heavy duty ramps this week for a good look. fingers crossed it's something cheap!!!
