Wheels and tyres?

--- Quote from: Sabo on January 20, 2008, 17:51:34 ---I recently put a 2" lift on my 1986 110 CSW. For general use I have old 235/85 R16 AT's. When I go on Greenlaning/offroad I swap then for 265/75 R16 MT Macho greenway - very noisy and rubbish on tarmac in RAIN! Might want to change permantly to one set of tyres and thinking of larger ones, any ideas?????

I am running BFG MT 285 75 16, these are a tad shy 0f 33in tall and nice and wide, they fit nice on a defender with a 2in lift.

I must say, I love the Macho's!!
I run them part time on the Disco 235/70.16 and they are brilliant off road and on! The only thing i'd say is they wear heavily!!
I've been on the Mway in mine at 75 ish in the absolute peeing rain! Had to do an emergency stop and while all around me was mayhem and spinning, I came to a complete and controlled stop and avoided the pile up!! Luckily the ones behind me avoided me as well

Yeah macho's are an excellent tyre, they grip well on a lot of surfaces and a remarkable good on the road (and relatively quiet). Normally run them on 90, put some colway mts on a little while ago and got a shock by the lack of grip on the road. As an all round you really can't beat them, i think i'd actually choose the yokohama version (not retreads) over a bfg mt, for general purpose of course.
DrMike what recips did you have, didn't know they did a macho pattern. I've got 3ds on my bobtail but they are a fair sight knarlier!

Which Yokohamas are they as I had a hunt about and couldn't find any in Macho pattern. I'm thinking I'll replace my Diamonds when I can afford it and I too would like to get some non remould tyres as I think my Diamonds are disappointing because the carcas walls are too stiff.
Well I don't have the recip tyres any more but I'm sure they were recip but this was3/4 years ago from some geezer in Malvern who did a very good price. They were also on 15" rims and I think thate xtra inch of rubber not rim helped.
What are the 3ds you refer to?

255/85 x 15's are almost 31.5" high
255/85 x 16's are almost 32.5" high (oddly enough :) )

255's are ~10" wide, it's 25.4mm to an inch. So 265's are ~10.5
255/85 16's are 33.06" tall, 255/85 15's are 32.06" tall - having said that tyres vary per manufacturer and BFG MT's sit 33.3" tall at this height and 10" wide on a 7" rim.
btw, another vote for 255/85 16 BFG Muds
Steve
