DIFF LOCK v ATC????

<< < (2/2)

Range Rover Ron:
Hello Guys,
all points taken onboard and thanks for replying.

I do understand that it is the gearbox that is causing the jumping out of second and the notchy transfere from first to second,
my plan is to change the gearbox.
I just wanted ask around regarding the fitting of a standard, diff lock gearbox to my RRC al la Disco or RRC, which should be easy to get hold of.
An exact replacement for my original gearbox may be a bit like searching for hen's teeth with the ATC system.

I was wondering how it would work either with or against my ATC system.
There is definately and ATC system as there is a pump to the brake system which will give the brakes pressure even if i don't touch the brake pedal.

One of the things I was thinking that would be a plus is that it could never get cross-axled with diff lock & ATC.
But would the diff locked axle fight against the ATC braking system and heat up the brake pads as mentioned above?
Hmmm..........more pondering me thinks!

cheers lads,
Ron.

Range Rover Blues:
If you've got ATC then you must have ABS, but neither have anything to do with the gearbox.

The Borg-Warner is fully interchangeable with the LT230 and the LT77 with the R380 AFAIK.

Blue has the B-W now but was built with LT230, the props are the same length, the handbrake the same, just the control linkage is simplified. The current box came from an Auto, but Blue is manual, for now.

The 1st to 2nd problem is very common and could be fixed by replacing the synchro hub that controls both, but is the gearbox worth the cost of the part without a full recon :?

Either way all you should need is another gearbox

Ron , with the box jumping out of gear it sounds like the 2nd gear synchro is faulty. This can be repaired. Had mine done at 120000 and its now at 254000 and alls well. Same engine, box and axles. Bazz.  :D
