Vegtable/Cooking oil, who runs it? Any Advice?
drmike:
I've run a V8 on gas and a TDI on 50% veg oil and I know which is better to run on and off road. A V8 sounds sweet and is more responsive when you boot it but the 200 TDI just pulls and pulls off road and isn't daunted by hills.

Been running mine on a twin tank system from diesel veg and run 100% veg oil all year round with a diesel start up tank. done around 8000miles so far so has more than paid for the kit. Im now looking at settling and filtering waist veg oil to run even cheaper.

what no one seems to mention is the fact that the veg oil molecules are 10 times the size of a diesel molecule and basically act as an abrasive to you fuel pump and injectors, dramatically shortenning the life of them.
though the savings made over 30k miles might offset the cost of rebuilding the fuel system.
as for the legality of it, if you dont pay the road fuel duty you can get your vehicle impounded and crushed, and a huge fine if you get caught
paying the duty is a matter of filling out a form and sending payment. no one can really check how much veg oil you use, compared to what you tell them ;)

You are legally allowed to produce & use 2500litres of biodiesel before you have to declare it & inform HMRC.
As for the pump & injectors....most of them upto 300tdi probably need replacing or reconditioning anyway  Its the seal that go & I have had my pump & injectors reconditioned for veg oil use :D
