what was land rovers best engine
Hobnailkelly:
Still got to be the 2 1/4 petrol.
Mechanically straightforward, just goes on and on and on and on.
Can be fixed with a large hammer, a Mole wrench and a screwdriver by any semi-competent bush mechanic. Has commonality of ancilliaries with other Rover/BL models.
Not tempremental.
Will withstand a good soaking (with a good squirt of WD40).
Either that or a 2.8 Daihatsu Turbodiesel

Buick sold the rights to that engine to rover/land rover in the 1960's so legally the rover V8s are land rover engines.
My head says TDi but my heart shouts V8
