range rover petrol tank

i was taking off the rear quarter to do some welding and maybe bobtail her and i found a extra tank on the drivers rear quarter i think its some kind of vent for the petrol tank and can i remove this altogether ????? :-k

Your right in thinking it's associated with the petrol tank. Yes it is to do with venting... but other than confirming your suspicions... I can't shed any light! sorry!  8-[ :oops:

From about '91 onwards the venting sytem became more elaborate than just a tube going up the wing.  You probably bave what's called a multi-vent tank, 3 vents go into this thin second 'tank' you found to scrub hydrocarbons from the vented air.  I'm trying to remeber if it is connected to the carbon cannister under the bonnet which purged by the engine during high-speed cruising or not, the EFi has a connection for it as early as 1990 IIRC.

Anyway, it's an emissions thing.

its a 88-89 range its a very thin tank but  one pipe come from the filler tube and two pipes come out and just hang there lol
oh sorry everyone its a 3.5 efi

Odd :?

I suspect then that your tank has been changed with the wrong one and originally it had the multi vent tank.

Either that or I'm barking up the wrong tree.
