Hi all

Anyone with a '97 XJ diesel (facelift) or anyone tell me if the engine is ok?

i can tell you it's a "VM" do a google on that.

The Smiths:
As Peter says it is a VM engine.

The engines are OK, enough power etc.  Expect around 30MPG - more on a run, less if heavy with the pedal.

There is a potential problem with the heads which seem to go after 80/100K miles - especially if not serviced / looked after.  The coolant water needs to be kept clean and flowing.

The Smiths:
Forgot to say that they can be run on vegetable oil as well :D

2.5 VM..keep the coolant clean as has been said
