Got the shakes!
stevepage3:
I had the same problem on my Disco every time i got above 50-55mph it would shake really bad and would only stop when I slowed right down. I changed all of the front radius arm bushes, panard bushes and also the ball joints, this cured the problem, then the other day after going offroad at Brickhill it happened again.
I removed the wheel and found that there was a large build up of mud on the inside of the rim, cleaned it off and can now cruise along at 70mph no problems. so I would say it is probably down to unbalanced wheels.
Hope this helps
Steve

Rabbit does this almost every time off road. more than once I've had to have the whell off to clean it.
JPJ:
Thanks for all of the advice guys. Its not the balance as it cruises fine all the way up to 70mph, and its not mud on the rim as these as the on-road tyres.
It happens when it hits some but not all bumps. It sure feels like the tyres are not balanced as the whole front end shakes.
The steering damper sounds a possibility and I wonder if it was tracked with the large off-road mud pluggers????
MudRat:
check all bushes, mud, balnce etc, prob the shims in the swivel housing :-k

I had this on mine at 45-50 mph turned out to be the joint on the drivers end of the rear steering arm (the one with the damper on ) it was only slightly worn.
To check it I jacked up the front wraped my hand around the joint and got a mate to shake the wheel with his weight the movement was only slight but changing the joint cured the shake .
