Who knows anything about V8?
BigSi:
This is driving me nuts! Bought a new distributor (module on side) for the correct year (1986) and engine (3.5 efi), only for the garage to tell me that it would not fit (PAS bracket in the way). I also bought a new starter motor, again for the correct year and engine, only to find that when offering the new unit up, the old unit is much bigger? I assumed that the larger starter motors were only fitted on pre efi engines?
PS: Im starting to wonder if it's a carb unit retro-fitted with an efi system?
ben_haynes:
dont know about the Distributer but i guess it should fit they are not trying hard enough
but the starter is a straight swap large and small fit unless you have tubular manifolds then it is a bit tighter but fits still
BigSi:
Cool. I was worried that I had bought the wrong unit (tomorrows job).
I also managed to uncover the engine number (wasn't a wasted day!), and it is the right engine. :D :D :D :D
As for the Distributer, I might get another garage to look at it. I would have a go myself, but don't want to mess the settings up.
PS: which side of the engine is your alternator (looking from the front)?
hairyasswelder:
88 efi RR
<<<<<
mine is on the top right as you look into the engine bay from the front
Bowie:
Mines on the top right too...
If the PAS bracket is in the way it sounds like they are putting the dizzy in in the wrong position, 'normally' it sits behind the PAS bracket...
This is assuming you have the crank pulley leading to the PAS pump on one belt, then another belt from the PAS pump to the alternator.
HTH.
