I finally managed to get it apart :(bigangry): BTW it's a RH thread despite the engine running clockwise :?

I was trying to get away without taking the sump off, No such luck. I started to take off the front cover, water straight in the sump, eventhough I drained the cooling system first

Anyway the chain is slack enough to give about 3 degrees either way or 6 all in of movment without moving the camshaft, also the nylon teeth are pretty well worn. I think i've done the right thing.

The biggest nuisance of all is the water pump is goosed and I've had to get one from a local supplier cos I need it now. 80 bloody quid it cost   I wish I had the time to wait one from paddocks. Better to find out now instead of halfway down the motorway though 8)
