You could always backflush the rad with a hosepipe, which'll help clear out any crud that's accumulated inside.

But don't do what I did to my old S3...I pressure washed it and blew most of the somewhat rotten fins out!!! :(

As above, check it all out!

but out of interest, do you have aircon? If so, the aircon fans are set to come on when the engine gets too hot!! so that would account for why it cooled for you, which would also suggest that the viscous fan is FUBAR :cry:

Sounds like an airlock that's cured itself, possibly built up due to the angles you were driving at :?
