Sticky Throttle

Hi to all

My 2000 1.8i freelander has developed a intermitant sticking throttle. The symptons are that on lifting off the rev's drop to 2000 (always the same ) then drop slowly to 1000 ( about 3 seconds), if you blip the throttle (whilst it's reving) it drops to 750 almost imediatley less than 1 second. It does not do this all the time amd it does not matter if it's hot or cold.

It did this whilst I was investigating today and the first things I noticed is that there is slack in the throttle cable, and the posistion sensor goes back to it's stop. but still reving.

Any ideas?

The standard plastic K series throttle body tends to stick.  There should be a little slack in the cable, but not a lot.  Also try Wd40 of the cable and spring.  You can also try lubing the entire cable in sheath, esp if you have been off road or its an older car.

On my elise K Series I put on a alloy throttle body that cured it, its not cheap £100+ but its an upgrade.

Thanks for the info, I was looking at the option of the alloy throttle houseing. It's just the cost ! I may well lok at getting a used plastic body from a newer vehicle from a scrap yard. Again thanks for the info.
