Has anbody got this problem my TD4 , its been on the motor from new , its only three years old and still does it after loads of trips mack to the main dealer . the fault is you go to start it and it wurs over and will not start turn the key again and it will do it again then sometimes it will start , sometimes you have to put it in gear rock it back wards and forwards and it will start ,  this can happen at any time what so ever any help would be nice

muddyweb:
Sounds like it could be a duff starter motor to me.

simdeb:
Starter motor changed twice  loads of other sensers changed leads changed

muddyweb:
What else has already been done ?  Might help with the diagnosis ;-)

ChrisW:
Sounds like its a batch of duff starter motors...

What exactly has been done to try and remedy the fault (before something else is suggested that has already been done) ?

The description you give suggests that the starter solenoid is not throwing the starter cog out far enough, could possibly be an electrical problem not a mechanical fault with the starter motor.
