Defender poor starting
muddydisco:
Right 300 tdi poor starting, it's had new glow plugs. Take's about a minute to start it's like the fuel is draining back. Removed lift pump arm is ok checked fuel pipes all seem ok. It only does it when left over night
Any common faults
Cheers aaron
extreme90:
have you removed the fuel filter to see if its brimming ?
it should be full to the top, if not then the lift pump is weak which will also give poor starting
tomorrow before starting it, prime the engine up off the lift pump and then see how it starts
if it strikes straigh up you got a air leak
other common places are the injector leak off rail, and fuel into the injector pump
some other things are bound to come to me later on, but at the mo, im still recovering from a megger night up town, so please bear with me

something else ( told you there would be  )
make sure the fuel tank breather isnt blocked, as that will syphon the fuel back to the tank,
remove the fuel cap and listen for a hiss after a period of running

I had this exact same problem on my 300Tdi disco. I changed the plugs etc and one of the injectors, but it turned out to be the timing. When I went to change the belt it was loose! Put a new belt on and timed in correctly and it starts up first time now.
extreme90:
youd get smoke and alot of coughing if it was the timing
even when the timing is 2 teeth out on the pump, 10 seconds of cranking and they will start
1 minute ish of trying to get ot go means theres no fuel there to me
