Oh dear I think I have a bit of a rust problem.

But a few hours welding should fixit :(mad): Thank god its not me doing the welding.

The two body mounts that attch to the rear of the sill are barely attached.funnily my dads being driving it for the last month and complained that the offside doors seem to have sagged. I wonder why?

mainly on the drive where it all fell out. Last person who fixed it used fibreglass matting to fill the holes. There is a 2' length on the outer sill that isnt rusty the rest of is pure crust.more pics are here

unfortunately thats not how the mot man sees it and he wants it fixed. Most people have bark chippings on their gardens I have rust chippings, maybe I can set a new trend!! :lol:

I think it's called " INNER SILLUS ROTTUS " :lol: :lol: i have been informed tho that as long as the seat doesnt move and you cant see it from the outside then just " GLUE YOUR CARPETS AND TRIM DOWN "!!!!!!!! my local garage had a ladies evening and the wife came back with some very interesting pointers :twisted: They cant move carpet or trim to inspect under them and if that crack in my windscreen is a bit on the large side then just take the windscreen out and put the car straight back in for a re-test :shock: :shock: You dont need to have a windscreen by law !!!!! I love to know this sort of stuff

That idea might get through the test, but don't forget that the seat belt is mounted to the seat. I'd prefer to know that if I had a shunt, I wouldn't be accompanied by the seat as I sailed through the windscreen (although it might hurt less if it wasn't there!)

The moter didnt need to lift the carpet he could see the interior light from under neath the car :(biglaugh):

lucky I have a spare range rover for breaking which is going to have a large lump cut out of it(the only bit that isnt rotten) to graft into my rangie

The inportant bit re the seatbelt is that the seat box is welded through the floor to the inner sill.

Decided that the sill is not repairable as even the body mounts are crust and there isnt enough good metal to cut back to. Luckily I have a rangie that I am breaking so i cut a large piece of metal out which is now being cleaned up and some minor repair before being grafted in to Rusty(as I have now christened him)

I didn't think twice about the body mount brakets, I just cut the lot out and made new brakets from 3mm plate welded directly to the new box section.
I also cut inwards into the vehicles floor a way. On the passanges side I drilled out all the spot welds at the seam about 10" into the vehicle, replacing a large section of the floor with fresh sheet and braced with fresh angle iron.

Use plenty of seal sealer after welding it all back together to prevent the water and rot getting back in all the gaps after you have done.

Well after lot of welding,and many gas bottles later Rusty is now less rusty. doors are on, all thats left is to mot him and then on to playing in the mud

Went for mot today and it passed so now on to adding some bits to play in the mud

Thats another one back on the road then, starting mine over the christmas holidays, both inner sills, rear crossmember and rear seatbelt anchor points (did the outer sills last year) :)
