Overheating

The 90 boiled over this morning on the way to work. Didn't boil dry and I can't see a leak. Replaced the thermostat yesterday but no leaks from the housing.

Any thoughts on why it is boiling? I thought maybe thermostat isn't working as there appears to be no leak or an air lock from when I filled up.

I had to drive for about 2 miles with it overheating (but not out of coolant). Any long term damage?

Did you test the stat before fitting, although its new it doesn't mean squat nowadays, its a lot less hassle to boil a pan of water that an engine

I didn't it was jammed when it arrived (the spring was incorrectly seated). I am begining to suspect it is now jammed shut and that is causing the overheating.

Got to get home. Can I take the stat out and run without it?

You can take the stat out and run without it, just keep an eye on it if it's cold where you are.  For a short journey you will be OK

It's pretty cold here. About 5 degrees but only 20 mins home so hopefully will be OK.
