Rear wheel bearings(how tight)drum brakes
(1/1)
bombx3:
i have just fitted new bearings and seals on my rear drum brakes ,does anyone no how tight they have to be?
Saffy:
Supposed to set them up with the correct amount of end float using a DTI.
Or as everyone else does, pack the bearings well with lithium grease, nip up the inner nut and spin wheel to seat the bearings, back off a flat or two until you can feel an extremely small amount of freeplay, then tighten up the lock nut with tabbed lock washer.
Nobber:
the workshop manual for older models says to gently tighten up the nut whilst spinning the wheel until it starts to drag , then slacken off a quarter turn.
i usually re do mine after 100 miles or if more usually the next week end.
Les Henson:
Rear wheel bearing replacement on a 300TDi Defender. Not so different with drum brakes with regard to fitting and adjusting the bearings.
