Steering, have I got a problem?

(1/3) > >>

Evilgoat:
I know Discos suffer from bump steer and I'm getting used to it, but it seems worse than I fele it should be. On its own I'm not too worred I just need to be ready for it.

But in the heavy rain I've also noticed that any puddle more than 1" deep threatents to smal me into the bush/bank or oncomming trafficif I'm doing more than about 15mph. now this I'm sure cant be right and is downright dangerous. Tire treads are ok and the Suzuki is nothing like this, it pulls but not to the point of almost loosing control like the Disco does.

Do I need to be looking at some serious steering system issues?

TDi90:
just a thought, are you stepping on the brakes at all?

Pete:
Could it be that there is too much play in the steering box? that would certainly cause what you describe.
Badly worn radius arm bushes can have the same effect.
If you can, get the car supported on stands, with no weight on the axle, get someone to move the steering while you check underneath.
Some faults are a lot easier to spot with the axle hanging from the suspension.
While it's lifted, give the wheel bearings a good dose of looking at.

I can do that fairly easilly and I was thinking along those lines. It dopes feel like there may be too much play somewhere. I was just hoping not to have to touch the driveline and steering on this for a while :(

freeagent:
Tracking?

From my experience, the tracking on disco's is vital, mine dived all over the road when i first bought it, and whenever it hit a puddle it tried to change lanes....
