I know it doesn't really include 4x4's as such, but most of the chase scene in the original Italian Job, is technically 'off road', therefore should qualify, especially the bit where the Minis jump from roof to roof :D

Cool film ,arnt they sent to get the unstable explosive from an old mine shed in the middle of the jungle to blow out an oil fire but the only thing they have is a scrap yard full of old army trucks .They make three out of scrap then head cross country . very very good film but like you I haven't seen it for 20 years but now I know what it's called I will try to track it down 8)
