timing chain too slack or not

<< < (2/2)

Budgie:
The 3.5 & 3.9 V8 motor doesn't have any tentioner on the timing chain.
You have to remove the cam & crank timing gears, put the chain over the gears and slide both gears back onto the cam & crank at the same time. The tention is provided by the camshaft and the crank.

There should be minimal movement in the chain, but I'm not sure exactly how much. You may have a duff chain that has stretched, if you're at all worried about it then change it as they're cheap enough and easy enough to do.

nice one budgie.....

glad some actualy knew the V8's dont have a tensioner   (sorry guys)

in all fairness i dont think its abnormal wear, ive just got to remember that once new parts dont stay new after there used

ive been told that there shouldnt be aproblem with it anyway even if there is abit of play as the chain is always under tension one side so you only get problems on other run....

ive heard some cars can have up2 10 degrees of play and still run good enough to do a 1/4mile in 13's
