At the risk of stating the obvious, you could always try the tried-and-tested method of undoing the nut, straightening it up, and doing the nut up again.

Of course, this won't help whatever underlying problem has put a 90 degree kink in your steering mechanism :)

I've had this happen on series vehicles a few times. Though not by as much as 90 degree's.  You say on another site it still steers and handles as before. Nothing may be bent or broken and the wheel may slowly go back to it's original possition.  Torsion effect in the steering gear. :?

series 3:
I had this problem in my series 3 after a coming together with a wall , it bent the bottom arm on the n/s swivel ...

or slightly easer , are the clamps on your track rod ends tight and the steering arm has slipped on them ?
