The sensor on top of the head does indeed relate to the EGR system, as for glow plugs you dont need them on a 300 tdi, I bulit my 2A with a 300 tdi 12 years ago never wired them up, still not wired up, being a direct injection engine they will start with out the uses of glow plugs, unless you live in the north pole......... thats the reason landrover fitted them, as they never know where there products end up. :D

Range Rover Blues:
I've got to say actually on RRR's TDi that one had been bust off and the other 3 were defective.  Now they've all been replaced it starts really quick whereas it used to be quite sluggish.

fuses (under bonnet?)
all links including earths
relay (should click when ignition 11 is on)

does the light on the dash come on? (choke symbol in amber)

fuses are okay dash light does not come on
