Now there's another point. Surely the heat from the fire will not do the screen any favours.....?

That is a nice and neat installation, can't see any power, aerial, or speaker cabling.

--- Quote from: "JumboBeef" ---Oh, OK.
Just wondered why you mounted it so high, as your eyes are designed to work on the horizontal or looking slightly down, looking up for long periods causes eye strain.

The main reasons it's on the chimney breast is that 1) it's central (important for the suround sound to be right!) 2) The alcoves either side are too small. 3) Flat screen LCD's/plasmas are just calling out to be wall mounted- the space I saved moving out a corner telly made room for the HiFi rack. I'm puzzeled when people splash out big cash on LCD's and then stick them in the corner where the old telly was....4) Out of the way of the kids fingers/flying toys.
True- it's higher than I'd like but I had to leave room underneath for the centre speaker. On the plus side it can be seen from anywhere in the room (ideal for a room full of people) and is easy to get used too- no neck strain yet!
