3 door Disco has the same roof and B-posts as a 5 door so it shouldn't make any difference.

I love the shape of the Safety Devices racks but in practice I find the frame style is too limiting.  Unless you deck it out with board, anything you put on it will fall down the gaps and wreck the roof.  They're more like a climbing frame than a loading platform.

And if you're going to deck it out anyway, you might as well go for a Patriot or Hannibal style rack.  I looked around long and hard and ended up with a Patriot rack.  My only criticism is because it's bolted rather than welded, it can rattle around sometimes, but then again you can take bits off and move them around, which can be useful.

You're also likely to find a Patriot rack costs more than your Disco is worth  :(

Mine came with the standard SD plywood but it is not difficult to cut some plywood, ally or even weld mesh to deck the rack out with, I have seen this done many times.  I also think that the SD racks have plenty of sturdy places for you to tie all your gear down to.

The last thing I want when I'm driving through Africa or anywhere else for that matter is for my roof rack to undo itself, bolts I mean.

It's got to be fit and forget for me (with the usual checks carried out obviously)

But then it's just about personal choice I suppose.  When I was researching I looked at the Patriot racks but could'nt come to grips with the idea of the rack being bolted together, nice rack mind you and propably better suited for your current needs.

I've never found anything comes apart, partly because the steel fittings corrode themselves to the ally rack.  In fact, the main problem is you can't get them apart when you actually need to  :?

It's a bit late after it's been powder coated, but I've sometimes wondered whether just welding it all up would be a better bet, assuming you found somebody who could do a decent job of welding the ally.

here is a piccy of my SD rr on my 3 dr.. the ali was easy to fit. great rack but very hard to come by cheaply
