R380 oil choices?

<< < (2/3) > >>

ChrisW:
The spec changed in August 98 to MTF 94, some detail here.

ChrisV8:
USE MTF if you put EP 75/90 in it the oil pump in the box will be kanckered first time you use it and then all the bearings will fail.

I have just had to replace the oil pump in an old LT95 for just that reason luckily it appears I got to it before the bearings went, unlike the one that was in my old Rangie. On that the layshaft bearings could be heard 1/4 mile away on tickover !!!

wingman:
I've got a load of ATF in the garage, and I don't have an auto box any longer, so I'll use that for the time being, and MTF next time I need some more oil...  Thanks everybody.

trec 2:
Glad the subject of oil and gear boxes has been raised, whilst doing a 'quick' spanner check this afternoon I discovered that all of my transmission oils looked like melted chocolate ice cream   I have left them to drain overnight but does any one have any hint or tips as to how to get the new oil into the various holes with out ending up wearing gallons of the 'orrable smelly stuff.

Ruprick:
I always use the small 1/2 litre bottles with the flexi spout to put the lubes in and just de-cant from the bigger bottles. I've never had a problem doing this at all. May take a little longer than the syringes you can by but I find it easier.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Al
