... and were they just normal ones you buy, say from Paddocks or similar?

I bought the Discoparts ones and had to bend them outwards to fit the steering guard.

yup the Paddocks own jobbies. They fitted front and back until I bought a steering guard with hi lift and recovery points in then took the jate rings off the front as thought waste of time with a steering guard doing the same job and more.
