which tyre is best compromise ??

Range Rover Blues:
Only thing I've found with BFG Muds is that they soften up adter a bit of punishment on road, but they are damn good.  Not as good on tarmac as the AT but you can't have everything.  If I only had one tyre it would be the MT.

beatmasterdave:
really happy with my bfg muds. i'll also be treking up to scotland in the near future. 8)  i'll be going up to 33X12.50 or 33X13.50s soonish (dont worry, i know all about the size putting more strain etc. its an image thing i'd like to try out 8)   ) how would the BFG muds compare to MAXXIS Mudzillas? they are a lot more aggressive :D  :D  :D

Thrasher:
Agree with Dave on the MT/R's ... only tyres I've had that will pull up when towing - all in a straight line with no random guesses as to "where you'll end up pointing". Also good in the mud!

How much of that is down to many other popular mud tyres being remoulds though?

Thrasher:
I wouldn't know - I'd never fit remoulds to any of my vehicles. It's a false economy.

The tyres I am comparing with are :

Trac Edge

General Grabber MT's
