TD5 Rear Lights
Bush Tucker Man:
Not the most interesting of topics I know, but.....
I was heading into Wakefield this morning at about 07:45 & saw 2 Discovery Td5's in queuing traffic heading in the opposite direction.
One was a 'pocket headlamp' model, the other a 'standard lamper'.
On looking in my mirrors I realised that both had upper body tail-lights, then I realised I'd not really seen many Td5's in the dark
Just out of interest can anyone tell me when the tail-light went 'upstairs'?, as weren't the early ones fitted with bumper tail-lights like the Discovery 1 (& for the same reason - visibility with the rear-door open)

Mine was a 2000 model, and had high level tail lights... the bumper mounted ones were Fogs. Pretty sure the Series 2 always has been.
The cluster uses something like 4 lamps per side, so you get reasonable light distribution and a bit of redundancy when a lamp fails.

Just another thought... in terms of visibility with the door open.. there is a red light in end of the door which comes on with the sidelights, so if the door is open, this is showing to the rear.

Mines a very early TD5, originally reg'd in 1998, and it has tail, stop and reverse lights at high level. The ones in the bumper are indicator and fogs.
I think that I prefer the new setup though, with the indicators up high.

Not in mine there's not :(
