Sluggish starting
Ralph Hardwick:
Thanks for the tips guys.
I am replacing the boot floor and fitting a veg kit soon so it looks like it'll be good opportunity check and replace the fuel lines.
Evilgoat:
Check your lift pump.if you manually prime it with the ickle lever will it start ok?
Disco Matt:
Check your fuel lift pump isn't broken - I had exactly the same symptoms on my 300 TDI after changing the fuel filter. The priming lever didn't seem to work, and as that was the only other thing I'd touched I suspected it might have something to do with the problem. A new fuel lift pump was about £20, took me an hour or two to fit and cured it instantly. The old one wasn't pumping at all - no signs of life from either the rod that the crank actuates or the priming lever. When I tested the new one before fitting it fired the protective cover from the outlet pipe across the room!
Ralph Hardwick:
Thanks for the advice guys. Yes I now think its the lift pump and I will be fitting anew one in he next few weeks.
Tdi Mark:
check fuel water trap inside chassis next to offside rear wheel.metal pipes rot and allow air in.had same fault on my 200 tdi.
