Gear Box

(1/2) > >>

Chris Kelsey:
I have a late 84 Rangie. I need a new gearbox for it, too much wear in the original one, too expensive to fix.
Can a gear box from the 3L Diesal Landys bolt in or is it just toooo hard

Range Rover Blues:
You don't say what engine you have.

The V8 and TD geaboxs are different in 2 main way that I know of.  The input shaft is smaller on the TD and the bellhousing is shorter.

General wisdom then is that they don't mix.

What engine do you have?

Chris Kelsey:
Thanks for that, I have the 3.5 petrol. If you have any sugestions for a 5 speed box please feel free to let me know.

Range Rover Blues:
All the 5 speeds RRC used the LT77 or LT77s with the exeption of the soft-dash that had the R380, a much nicer 'box to drive but hard to find S/H for sensible money.

If you don't already have the 5-speed box you may also need the transmission tunnel for it, I can't be sure but IIRC the tunnel is bigger, ie further back but also is welded in rather than bolted as per earlier cars.

Chris Kelsey:
I have the 5 speed and it would be the LT 77 I would imagine, and yes your correct about sensible money. So to just confirm, your saying the R380 would bolt straight in, is that correct?
