Rear door subwoofer fault
marsie:
My disco(1999 series 1 v8)has a rear door mounted subwoofer but it dunt appear to be working. My car has been fitted at sometime with a kenwood head unit.I suspect on the standard radio there is a feed to the amplifier that isnt there on the kenwood
I have a spare plug on the car wiring harness that is a 7 pin flat chrome plug with only 2 wires connected(1 red,1 black)-Is this the amp/sub wiring plug??
On the kenwood there are 2(left and right)output plugs that are round phono type plugs
Is there a way to wire it up so the LR amp/sub works with the kenwood head unit???
Ta very much
Paul
Evilgoat:
Without looking at it I wouldnt know, but connecting anything powered to a line out will nail the head unit. Can you get a pic?
Jake:
After hours of mucking about trying to make my factory subs work after fitting a Sony head unit i gave up
It didn't matter how i tried to wire it up, it never worked
So i just brought another amp and fitted a proper sub woofer.
Works a treat now although i have lost a sq ft of boot space
But, never mind eh
skip:
The two wires are indeed for the subs.
First your head unit must have RCA pre outs, if not you'll have to get a special adaptor.
Then you need to get hold of an RCA plug, say cut one off a set of leads then connect the red wire to the core and the the black wire to the earth/shield wire then stuff the plug into the back of the head unit 8)
SWEETY:
You can pick up the converter for about £5 it has speaker wires 1 side & 2 phono's on the other
