The "gentleman" in question was telling me that the wheel lifted and bounced down, there was a big pop and a puff of dust.

No damage to wheel or tyre.

Tim's description was spot on. I think it came down on one wheel while sliding sideways on the edge of the step.

I believe this is actually a gazetted road. It's just outside Brisbane.

I thought it was going over... Lucky my insuance covers me anywhere that is not racing.

The topic name was changed as we have received complaints about that particular word in the past.  Not so much censorship as moderation.
