viscous coupling / transfer box swap

My mates recently bought a classic with a viscous coupling transfer box
Trouble is the coupling's seized solid - have taken off front prop as a temp. measure for now
He can get hold of a transfer box with manual diff lock - is this an easy swap or should he keep looking for a box with viscous lock
Transfer box is from a 300 tdi hi cap pick up so may be a different ratio from his anyway - although his rangie is a factory tdi

110 t/b ratio is lower so will benefit taller tyres. My mate has had this done on his Tdi RR. There are PITA issues with the linkages but nothing that can't be worked around if you have the bits (poss a earlier RR or Disco LT230 linkage is easiest).

I'm hoping we can get all the linkages for the t/box from the 110 - that's assuming they will be the same of course !
Will I need the t/box lever from the 110 too ?

:lol: It's an easy job to change the viscous unit if you can find a decent one, took me a morning to do on daughters Classic. Details on Ashcrofts web site. But a recon viscous is about £250.00.
But, similarly it's not difficult to change the whole unit for one from a 90 or a 110. You will need all the linkages and best to have the levers as well. There's a good right up on changing a transfer here.

I also found it easier to make up the bracket for holding the box as detailed in the workshop manual. Takes a few hours to do the change.

Keep looking on ebay. Mine was the same - just kept looking and I eventually got the coupling AND transfer box for nineteen quid. I think I was lucky mind. The one on before went for about forty five - but still not that bad.
