D.I.Y Snorkel - I'm going for it! (any advice welcome!)

stuntman:
That's the one's i used, a 43 for the top a 43 at the wing, then a short piece of pipe through the wing, then a 135 then more pipe to a 90, then another short piece into the air box, I'm going to seal it all properly when I've made my breather kit, if I can get the thread sizes for the axels, gearbox, transfer box, and timing cover.

I'm feeling distinctly proud of myself boys... I'm sure I wasn't the first but to see so many people following my path in creating a snorkel is fab.

When I was at the L2B a couple of weeks ago, I was following the marshalls directions to a prking spot and suddenly found myself in the arena getting interviewed... whoever he was asked what I'd dont to my beastie and was taken aback when I coined the term "B&Q Snorkel"!!!!

Keep it up lads... you know it makes sense!

most common cause is the water dump valve...

remove the plastic scoop of the stainless pipe and put your hand over it
the pipe will recover, mine does

Yeah, the only thing I'm worried about is breaking the seal of the pipe into the airbox.  If you look at the pictures I posted on the other snorkel thread you'll see what I mean, the pipe fits inside the airbox mouth, and whilst there is plenty silicone and tape holding it all together to stop water ingress from the outside, there's nothing to stop the pipe collapsing during the test and breaking the seal.

Ideally I guess it wants another piece of stiff pipe up the inside but this is a bit of a pain...especially as I sikaflexed the airbox top back on!

How much does it compress during testing?

it just sucks itself together more than anything its only the top intercooler hose that sucks in, but you if running a 300 with EGT it wont effect as its only 2 bits of rubber then a metal pipe
