  Ive just received an email from my web-site server company. You see ive been trying to edit my site for a phew days now and wondered why i couldnt access my site-studio ( site edit program ). Apparently there server went down over xmas and they did not or have lost all the back-up files for all there customers web-sites. So to cut a long story short my current web-site as it is can still be veiwed but if i want to add say any pictures or text etc, ill have to start all over again from scratch and my original site will be lost.

The time it took to do this site and all for nothing.
Ill have to restart and build another site before i can add anything new, unless theres a way of saveing presant site so i can upload it page by page onto new site?.. Ill have to look into this.

Going to have a phew double whiskys now.

Hopefully the next web-site i do will be better anyway, and yes ill put it through spell checker first

2 things:

1) If it can be viewed then the files are still sitting somewhere and are recoverable, apart from the unlikely event that they're cached.

2) If it can be viewed, you can rip the html and images off the site (there are bits of software to let you do this), save them locally, et voila.  This won't help if you have much scripting.

Oh, and 3) Give your ISP a hard time for not backing up...  I work for a major backup & recovery software vendor :)

And while I think about it, 4) You could try the Wayback Machine and also the google cache of the various bits of your website to recover bits and pieces.

that's a load of codswallop

*if* it can be viewed, they can take a copy of it..  no ifs, no buts...  whether they can be bothered or not is another matter....

muddyweb:
I can get you a complete copy of your web site without any trouble.   The issue is how it is created / hosted.

If you normally upload everything via FTP then it's easy.   If you have to use their site creation tool to get the pages online, then it may not be so easy.

PM me if you'd like to discuss...

One thing for sure is that im giveing them some right stick about this via emails. All they do is appologise, theyve not wavered my next monthly fee though

When it comes to p.cs im not much cop, so trying to put this right myself is a no go im affraid. So ill just have to rebuild another one and learn from previous mistakes. Im also stuck with this company until my contract is finnished other wise ide go and use someone else. :(
