This is on the rail above the pedals, 6 pin connector. Plug goes right into the main loom. The box is ally with a heatsink so its designed to deal with some power and its a factory fitted unit.

Any ideas? Its disconnected and everything seems to work.

Check the wire colours against a wiring diagram.  Headlamp dim/dip perhaps?

I have exactly the same on my RRC.  If you plug it in the lights are on permanently...I haven't bothered to check what it is though  :oops:

typical symptom of a knackered dim-dip unit on the mk3 cavaliers so that looks like a good bet. No dim dip on mine, so I might have a poke around and see if mine's disconnected too.
