Hi guys, I don't venture in this section very often, but I was hoping you might be able to help me out.
I rescued a SWB landy from a garden at the weekend to do up.  It's an exMOD one.  But I thought that usually series militarys were mainly LWB, and normally slighty differant.  Is it the same with the SWB, or is it the same as the civilian version?

Do you know its history?  That's probubly its only way of gaining distinction.

Modelwise after the leightweight was introduiced prittymuch all army SWB's were lightweights, that doesn't mean they didn't buy normal ones too, though they were usally just base hacks /admin motors and basicly civvy spec, some even had civvy registrations from new.  From a mecanical spec that makes them pritty comon.

This one certainly doesn't apear to have any millatry fittings bar the bolt on hitch - that could have been added by anyone at any time.

It was registered on army plates.  I've got it's discharge papers from when it was released.  The bloke I got it from was told by the owner before that it had been used as a pool vehicle on a base in the UK, and was somehow attached to a typing pool.  There's nothing fitted like convoy lights, and it all looks the same as ones I've had in the past.  It was a soft top origanally.  It had only covered 33000 miles when released, so I don't think it's had a hard life.
I've heard there's somewhere you can contact to get it's military history, is this true?

Its looks civilian with the rear cross member, but being a pool vehicle it was used for general running about

The forces did have quite a few 88's in use, so it could still have been one, prob transferred with the needs for heavy use, ie road vehicles

We used to have one on one camp, it was used as a fire wagon, just a soft top 88 gs, 12v rag top, and all the hoses, stand pipes and bits to put water down on small fires on the camp, was deep bronze green and actually polished!

Never even left the camp grounds, very low mileage, got through more work tickets than tyres :lol:

It depends on the conditon of the chassis and bulkead really as for restoring, but nice and easy to work on though, looks ok on the outside though

It's not too bad underneath.  Main chassis rails and rear cross member are solid.  It needs two of the outriggers plating and one footwell doing.  Otherwise it's really good.  Was running like a dream until it ran out of petrol getting it off the trailer and now is struggling a bit.  I think it probably sucked through several years worth of rubbish from the fuel tank.
