smoke puff on start up

<< < (2/5) > >>

suggs:
on the Disco i had a custom side exit system. never noticed it smoke

Devon-Rover:
They all do it. typical of a TDI it starts and there is a wee puff of black smoke.

diggerdog36:
Mine there is none whatsoever after its stood over night, but if I switch it off and wait 10 mins then start it........different story. Thick black smoke everywhere!!!

Jim-Willy:
My 300 doesn't really smoke much at all unless its working very hard......  A few of my mates trucks have had the fueling tweaked and they vary from smoky to daft amounts of smoke.

Stephen Leckie:
To do with the compression ratio. TD5's do not smoke on start up because the compression is much higher, 200's and 300's do because the fuel pump puts more fuel in to start the engine, less compression, less efficient, puff of black smoke.
