standard or not?
elassoma:
hello guys, i picked up a series 2 a couple of months ago, nearly time to get a failure sheet/work list from the nice MOT people but after that not sure whether to try to do it up as standard or to make a bit of a toy out of it (as funds and the missus allow)
would like some thoughts,
how good are they off road as standard?
or should i look at lift, truck cab, cage, big diesel buckets etc etc?
cheers
ryan
Jim-Willy:
Get it running and mot'd cheap as you can then take it out and see what you think. Mod away as you think you need to once shes road legal..........
Devon-Rover:
Hello. I'm all of a stones throw from plymouth. 8)
In standard form with a good set of boots a IIA will go anywhere any other landy will go.
Whilst they might not be a cultured as it's coil sprung counter part it's more rewarding to drive and requires you to actually drive them to get across the difficult terrain.
I can be found at most RTV's with the Cornwall and Devon LRC competing up and against the best off road trials drivers in the country and most of the time it's the driver letting the side down not the landy.
As jim said. Get it running first.
Then go offraoding and then mod it when you find it lacking in a department.
elassoma:
yeah, got to mot it.
insurance is almost free so got to get it on the road soon as.
really like the idea of keeping it standard but can't keep it on the tarmac. but don't want to go ott. keep the disco for that.
cheers for the advive and i'll let you know when it's mot'd
cheers

Would back up the previous thoughts. Get her on the road, enjoy the experience of driving her for a bit, and see how you feel.
For example, loads convert to coilsprung, but although I am making gradual 'improvements', that won't be one of them for me personally. I like the reminder of how driving used to be, and how the modern driver is so out of touch with their vehicle and the road it is on.
