Fao terrano types.
lambert:
Found a simple solution to diff ground interface issues. Weld on a lump of palasde security fence. It is a good shape and fairly tough.
Watch this space for updates on it's effectiveness.
SWEETY:
You've now got me wondering :? :?
Terranosaurus:
Never heard of anyone ever having problems with the diffs bar one and that was internal. The front diff is well up out of the way, you'd have to do some serious damage to even get it to touch anything. The rear diff if the biggest lump of cast iron around, would make a good anchor for the QE2., if reversing the back of the axle casing could be vunerable perhaps.
I'd be more worried about the potential damage you'll do to your oil by localised heating of the casing burning it and possibly the front diff seal too. I for one would make it a bolt on/round skid if you're going to do it at all.
lambert:
It's the wonderfull design of a 10 mm forward facing lip on the bottom of the diff that does a good job of being an anchor on ruts and stumps. As for the heat, it is such a massive heat sink specially if done bit by bit it will be fine.
Terranosaurus:
Ever welded cast? You need to get the whole thing properly hot to get it to work properly, what type of gear are you going to use?
