Well I cant speak for the Td4 but ..... on the 1.8 you must have 12mm of slack in the throttle cable else the HDC light will come on and go off again as you mentioned earlier. You can adjust it easily at the bracket on the throttle body, just slide the outer cable out of the notch in the bracket give give the square plastic bit half a turn or enough to get some slack at the pedal then slide it back in.... no tools reqd.

Iwill give that a go but in the mean time my good lady has now said it seems to happen more when she is low on fuel :? the mystery deepens someone tell me when i should give scooby doo a call :lol:

no no no today there is more than half a tank of fuel and it happens again so that theroy is out of the window :(

Had similar problem on my 2000 1.8 turned out to be fauty brake light switch. Told it is quite common that, they stick on and confuse the ECU.
