Let's face it, most people have them for the LOOKS !!! (and what's wrong in that???)
Unless it's a B&Q drain pipe jobby !!!
Fit one !!!!

Won't stop the water on the Dizzy, and all other electrical engine 'stuff' though !!!

Cheers guys for the input, i'm gonna go for it, just searchin the net for a snorkel to fit other wise a trip to B&Q may be in order

Has anyone got any good tips for waterproofing?

i've relocated the dizzy and fuse box higher up in the engine bay to begin with.

Cheers Phil

I have known a diesel survive being hydrauliced, not sure what jap 4x4 it was but definatly more of a soft roader. Anyway the air intake was above the front wheel so when the driver followed a seires through a long muddy puddle (a foot deep at worst) it sucked up water like a good un.

Amazingly all they did was take out the heater plugs and turn it over a few times put the heater plugs back in and away it went. It took they a while to get at the heater plugs mind, new diesel engines are covered in all sorts of obstructions, it took some time before anyone worked out where the heater plugs were.

depedning where the standard air intake is makes snorkles more useful on some vehicles than others with decent positioned air intakes.

Drift:
We cleaned out my mates 2.8 frontera, he went through the corwen car wash a wee bit fast, and yup it stalled.
Towed him back to the digs and he stripped out the glow plugs turned it over and nice spray of water came out.
He also emptied the intercooler that had a good cup full in.
He then went on a 7 hour drive to Devon the next day with no probs at all.

He has since fitted a snorkle
