Of course, the guy on eBay might be an enthusiast too  ;-)

Most people working in the general "classic car " field start of as enthusiasts and end up putting their hobby to work.  I find that people such as this I have encountered maintain a genuine enthusiasm for their hobby and their experience is put to our benifit.

Back to the original question.... I bought a pair of springs through "an alternative source" and paid £7.50 inc postage.

I took the lock apart before xmas to see what exactly had broken 1st. I didn't get round to fitting the spring until the new year. It now works fine.

It was really fiddly to do. Having removed all the connection rods, un bolted the lock assembly, dissconnected the key lock etc etc, I still found it a real pain the get the lock out of the door cavity. I finally got it out and replaced the small spring no problems. I put it all back together (from memory before xmas) and it all now works. I have got one bit left over through (as always) it's a brass cylinder with a grub screw in it, can't work out where it came from as everything works ok without it !!!

The central locking was playing up beforehand, sometimes it would lock and then instantly unlock itself. The broken spring in the rear door lock was obviously the cause as it's now fine.

Well worth £7.50 and scraped knuckles to save myself £100 on a new lock assembly.

Has anybody got a diagram to show where this spring fits,I have won a spring on e-bay but have no idea where to begin, the lock configuration seems delicate to have my mitts attack it.

Pics will help.
