Are switches repairable?

(1/2) > >>

Timbob:
Does anyone know if it is possible to repair the interior light and heated rear windscreen switches? Craddock want £28 and £7 for them?! Could just wack in any old switch but i assume they cant be that complex inside. Anyone done it?
Cheers

V8MoneyPit:
If they are the rocker type switches, we find the contacts burn out and loose their 'spring'. If this has happened, you will find you can clean them up and they'll work for a little while but then fail again.

Might just be better to bite the bullet and buy replacements. At least you know they'll last a while.

Timbob:
thanks for the advice but is there a cheaper option than craddocks for proper landrover switches? I could rape my wifes mini of switches but it may be a step too far.

Bob696:
If they are just making a 'dodgy contact' they can frequently be repaired by holding a soldering iron on the contacts whilst waggling them like mad!!!

If they are rocker switches then maplins sell some cheapish as do a lot of motorfactor shops

Good idea   But you won't get the interior light switch from that car...... and you may not live long enough to fit them anyway

Is this the interior light switch you need? A bit cheaper if it is.

The heated screen switch tends to be around £10 or so normally.
