winch woes
« on: August 11, 2007, 10:44:05 »
hi all. decided to strip winch etc off my bumper to give them both a good clean and paint. spray all the nuts and bolts with pen oil. a bar comes off ok as does solinoid pack but first bolt holding winch on undoes about half a turn then snaps. can anyone shine a light on how to get the others off with out repeating the loud snapping noise and me nearly punching my self in the face.

if its just the 4 bolts holding the winch down just snap em all off

its best to fit new ones anyways and they should be just fitted to square nuts in slots on the winch so replace them too, wont be expensive and you'll know the winch is bolted on as strong as it can be.

pull all the wire cable off
now look at the two drum end caps, at the bottom you'll see a cut away in the ally casting where the M10 or M12 square nut lies, soak that and the pin in wd40 and leave over night

alternitavly, just  snap them all, but dont apply too much force as you could bust the delicate ally supports

hope that helps
