Thats ironic becuase the defender is now called the D90 in America cause they like to have numbers in the name. Discovery 3 is generally called D3.
Daft Americans!

Holyzeus:
it was always called the D90 in the states it was only available for a short while, look at the prices for them on the US ebay
per_ardua:
Pre 1989 'land rover ' only produced two models, Range Rover and Land Rover.
In 1989, they came about a third model, The Discovery, therefore it was decided to name all three vehicles as having a 'land rover' and 'land rover discovery' would be confusing.
hence the name change
Range Rover
Defender
Discovery
the Land Rover Ninety and One-ten as they were then known before hand was changed to Defender 90 and 110.
hope this helps.
P.S. I have a Landrover One-ten and a Defender 90.
Nobber:
just found this thread as ive been away for a while.
early one-tens had sliding windows , ninetys never had.
they also had galvanized body cappings and sill bars , defenders had just steel ones.
the doors had lift up handles with a pull handle on the inside.
the trim , ninetys had delux high back series seats but apart from that pretty standard stuff. older vehicles had a galvanized vent above the rear door however im not sure if they changed this for the defender or not.
the bonnet on a ninety opens via a key and lock above the grille.
ninetys had the old type lt77 that couldnt take the later cross drilled input gear and suffered badly from input shaft wear.
ninetys and one-tens were almost experimental as they were a brand new design and underwent numerous changes before they became defenders.

Because the 90 was introduced later

Only on A/B reg vehicles...c reg too date have mild steel cappings

Only on A/B reg vehicles...C reg onwards had push button doors.

So did the 110's on A/B reg vehicles.

So did the 110's...only a real problem when the Defenders were introduced with the more powerful 200Tdi engine.

The Range Rover was the experimental vehicle. The early 110's (Y & A reg) were a mix of Stage 1 Series3's 109's & Range Rover.
