Range Rover Blues:
Should these ever be changed as a matter of routine?

If they have done a fair few miles then best changed/reconed (depending on recomended service intervals).
On tractors the going rate was nominally 1000 hours use before they should be changed, in practice they useually end up doing 5000+ hours without significant problems. If farmers stuck tractors on dynos more often then I expect injectors would get changed more often as well.
If the engine isn't burning fuel well, lots of black smoke etc. then it could well be a injector thats not firing right, dribling fuel out rather than producing a fine mist.

The manual probably says so but as a rule not normally. 150000 shoudl be no problem at all.
It is worth taking them off occasionally (every 100 000 miles or so) and getting them checked out, burst pressure and spray pattern.
That said a basic injector is pretty cheap; it's the ones with electric string coming out of them that cost big money.
Range Rover Blues:
Been looking at the prices on Paddocks web site, £50 ish a peice so I'm hoping they can be reconned.
It's done about 130,000 and the head gasket went on Wed so it's in peices. Bores look ok so I'm having the head skimmed then putting it back together, fingers crossed.
When it was running it would do 25MPG, it smokes a bit as it's been tweaked but I don't know what else has been done. Someone has had lots of bits off as I've found bolts missing or finger tight, not good.

i had mine done on my disco tdi at 118,000 and there was one or 2 crap ones cost me 100 pound to be cleaned and tested now goes like a sports car lol ( i wish )
