Insa Turbo Special Tracks poll

<< < (4/5) > >>

Evilgoat:
I have thought about the 2 sets of tyres thing myself. Other than them looking daft in the aches its tempting. My AT2's have done a LOT of road miles (1000s) and probobly only 100 or so offroad, seems a waste to wear down tires for offroad on tarmac. not to mention the zook gets tail-happy in the wet with those tires.

extreme90:
get the insa's keri, they r brilliant, a friends has just hit the 10 thou mark reckon there about 2/3's worn now and the still grip like    offroad

you will find that the will hardly ware at all for the 1st 1000 miles or so but then they will go down faster, pretty much most remoulds are like that, its a hard(ish) compound on the outer tread where its been baked then the lower down it gets softer

2 sets of tyres wise
i used to have some discoverer STT's and i get pig sick of swapping every time id been offroading, so im just running around on my simex as they aint that bad ware wise, they just hit the 6thou mark and theres still 3/4's the tread  left
also i like the hum and there fun to drive in the wet

btw liam if spending the money on stt's....dont...they are like my backside compared to bf muds   , cooper make out they are the dogs when quite simply they aint in the same leauge as bfg's

Keri:
Thanks for all your replys judging by whats been said i think will defo give them ago, and see how they fair can but try  :D

--- Quote from: "clbarclay" ---Seriously people for what its worth running 2 sets of tyres is not too difficult, bearing in mind that tyres may be good down to 1.6-3mm on the road, but once below about 50% tread then their performance will suffer off road. Why waste off road tyres with lots of road miles?

The only good reason (other than "I'm just lazy") I can think of is if your going to be driving off road every 5 minuets like if you work in forresty etc.

cost? storage? awkward if you're going away somewhere and want both? even more awkward if you've already packed the back/trailer/roof rack?

theres tons of reasons - its a sensible idea IF you dont stray more than 5 miles from your house. in reality though for a lot of people (like us) theres nothing to buy them with, nothing to buy the extra rims with, nowhere to store them, hassle of moving them if you're going a good distance.... it would get tedious and irritating.

danny - i've looked at both, the main reason i'd go for stt's is because i get sick of seeing bf goodrich on every bloody tyre that rolls past :) to be honest, we'll probably just put the special tracks on anyway... for the sake of 250 quid, who cares. noise? who cares... its noisy anyway. sideways? sounds like fun (ish) and to be fair, id rather be sideways on mud tyres WITHOUT a second set of tyres on the roofrack, rather than be sideways on its side with the second set of tyres all over the road... get my drift?

besides, you'd look like a right knob head if you cruised the quarrys (etc) on 35" simex or similar, and then rolled up to your mates house (in the same land rover of course) on 235/85's ;)

*disclaimer - the above may be exagerated... not that im very bothered

clbarclay:
Sorry, should have been a little clearer, for driving to a play&play or greenlane then one weekends wear is not going to be significant so yes use them on the road for that but not the rest of the weak/month/year between offroading sesions.

Yes storage can be a problem for some (not me), correct me if i'm wrong but most houses it would appear have a garage of some sort and we all know these are for storing junk and stuff (extra tyres) rather than the £££££ cars which live outside.

If you know me you would know that I care very little for fancy apperances, I proritise practicality/performance a long way above looking a right knob. Its why I stopped modifying golfs etc. and why I started modefiying range rovers or building kit cars. each to their own.
