starting a cage
wrecker:
muddyjlx,
will sort out a pic for you mate :D
rollazuki:
As an exo, its got little side support, a bolt thru diagonal would help. but in a full roll, Id say itll go down like a house of cards. Theres no support into the chassis from what I can see in the pics, and no front-rear diagonal bracing. All the force is going to go straight into the curved wheelarch bar which is in the worst possible position to handle the force.
Id fit a B pillar post straight down to rockslider or chassis and a diagonal off that to the rear c pillar post at least.
I know Im gonna get all the nay sayers going on about how sweet it looks and I shouldnt slag it off, but Im not slagging. Theres basic engineering principles here that have not been followed and as such its not gonna be strong.
It does however look good, tidy and all that, but Id worry about the points raised.
Rolla(trying to be positive)
muddyjlx:
its not finished yet.
i got the bar to do down between the doors yet and the rear section over the back door.
the arch bars have got to be braced back to the chassis .
also i will be putting a diagonal down behind the rear seats on the inside.
then the spare wheel carrier that will act as a diagonal across the rear door.
its not really a roll cage as such, more body protection than anything.
rollazuki:
Im glad about that. Phew.
My exo was unbraced across the car, in a hard roll would have folded somewhat, but for rubbing against stuff, it was excellent. Good for a gentle roll.
muddyjlx:
i don't intend to roll the car
i just needed to slop some paint on for a show at the weekend.
got lots to do to it still.
